What is the minimum pushback crew?

Pushback Operator only

Pushback Operator and One Wing Walker

Minimum pushback crew requires at least two people: the Pushback Operator who maneuvers the tug, coordinates with the flight deck, and controls braking and power, and a Wing Walker who stands at the wing to monitor clearance and guide the aircraft away from obstacles and equipment. The Wing Walker’s role is to provide a second set of eyes for wingtip and surrounding clearance, communicating with the operator to ensure safe separation from jet bridges, ground support equipment, and other hazards. With only a Pushback Operator, there’s no dedicated observer for wing clearance, increasing the risk of contact with structures or equipment. With only a Wing Walker, there’s no one to actually control the tug and manage the pushback sequence. The combination of both roles meets the minimum safety requirement for a controlled, coordinated pushback.
